Forest Rangers FC Development Program
The Development Program is a graded selection process program which provide opportunities for 8-14-year old players to benefit from advanced coaching with qualified and experienced coaches and to develop players within the Forest Rangers FC player pathway.
Starting in 2021 Forest Rangers FC is the first club in the St George Area to appoint a Female Technical Director, Amanda Marino and also provide a female development program. The female development program runs parallel with our current development program and is from U8 to U14 age group.
Technical training or ‘having a ball at your feet’ is the most important concept for the development of young football players. At Forest Rangers FC, we consider player development over the “winning at all cost” mentality is paramount to young player development. We shall emphasise the technical part of football to ensure that the young footballer can play with confidence but also to develop their “Free Play” similar to a South American style of play. Our qualified coaches encourage the players to express themselves with the ball and to have fun doing it. We believe you can play at a high level but still have fun doing it.
Trials are held every year in October/November for players to join the program the following season. These trials are open to male and female players.
In our selection process the players are evaluated on a number of key areas. These are:
- Technique
- Balance
- Speed
- Attitude
- Behaviour
- Skill
- Personality
- Understanding
- Intelligence
Each player must trial for their position every year, No players position is secure and must be earnt at the trials and throughout the season. This process ensures that each player that trials is given equal opportunity to be involved in the Development Program regardless of what level they played at or at which club.
Each team is allocated a Coach, Assistant Coach and Manager which means the coach/player ratio is the best in the area. This increases the players development and also at a faster rate compared to other similar programs.
The teams train two nights a week and plays games on Saturday within the Football St George Association and also plays a second training game each fortnight against other teams.
